Every body continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion until and unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force (Interpretation of Newton’s First Law of Motion)- In this case two crater shaped potholes decided to be the benevolent contributors in exerting this force and almost made me lose my balance as my mind was yanked back to ‘ground reality ‘ in aamchi mumbai.
I was going to the railway station to fetch my wife, blissfully riding her scooty enjoying the cool evening breeze. My mind was still traversing the streets of Goa, where from I had returned just a day earlier.
As I picked up speed, I could still see the quiet streets of Miramar; the beautiful lamp posts glowing softly emitting a dim white afterglow, the quaint little cottages and villas framed against the blue black sky on a cool moonlit night, the bay along the river Mandovi, the boats trying to outdo each other in lighting and decoration…
It would be an understatement to say that riding in Goa was a pleasure. The best aspect of this experience was that there were no signals!…..and no traffic jams!.. at least I wasn’t witness to one in the days I was there.
Inertia can be dangerous, especially driving in Mumbai after a stint in Goa! Luckily for me the potholes did their job rather well and true to Mr. Newton’s first law, I switched back to ‘Mumbai mode’ with blaring horns, screeching brakes and a stop every two minutes on account of either a traffic light or due to a traffic jam!
Back home, I guess….
